Spring 2016

This spring in mid- April was our first Adventure with taking our camper to Yellowstone NP and setting it up at the Mammoth Camp Ground. The weather is fairly normal for this time of year, cool in the morning with temps in the mid to high forties later in the day.

Kathy spotted a flock of Blue Birds, just east of Long Pull Out, that have recently migrated back to the mountains, which we watched for quite awhile and were fortunate to get some good shots of the “nervous” and “flighty” little birds.

There are Osprey in nests along the Yellowstone River in the Paradise Valley just north of the park and we captured one showing off his landing skills to a potential mate.

The Osprey are returning to the park, doing spring house cleaning on their nest and getting ready for the little ones that will hatch in a few weeks. One nest is located in a tree high and above the Lamar River that flows through a narrow canyon east of the Slough Creek area.

As we always have our grill along and make our meals at one of the picnic areas or pull outs along the Northern Tier. The “best cook” in the west will either make a fresh breakfast burrito, topped with salsa or blue berry pancakes for breakfast and later in the day chili burgers, beef stew of even a steak may be on the menu for a late lunch or early dinner.
