Late Spring 2016 Adventure

Our Adventure in Late Spring for about two weeks takes us into Yellowstone NP to view and photograph the wildlife who are very active with new borne fawns, calf’s, cubs and pups, all of whom are trying to survive in the wild.

We’ve parked our camper at the Rocky Mountain RV Park for the duration of our Adventure and we travel into the park daily along the Northern Tier, into the Hayden Valley once the road over Dunraven Pass is plowed and clear of snow or west to Swan Lake Flats and then south to Norris and even to Old Faithful. Every day is a new Adventure and we do see and visit with friends that we’ve known for years who are also enjoying the wonderful sights of the park.

There were two sow grizzly bears near Grizzly Lake Trail pull out and both came out of their dens with three COYS (cub of the year), but one sow lost all three COYS and the other lost two to a boar Grizzly. The sow will not mate until she kicks the cubs out to fend for themselves after being with her for two years and the boar will kill the COYS so he can try to entice the sow to mate. Sad but true and we/ve been told that only 20% of COYS will survive to their second year.
