Kipps Landing

Leaving Alberta, Canada our adventure in September of 2016 continued as we headed for Kipps Landing and Camp Ground along the Missouri River in Central Montana to set up our camper. For the next three days we headed into the Charles M. Russell Wildlife Preserve in the early morning and the late afternoon to observed the Elk during the “rut” or mating season. A four square mile area designated as Slippery Ann Wildlife Viewing Area, which is off limits to hunting at this time of year, is about six or so miles east along the north side of the Missouri River as the elk use this area during the “rut”. And the “Big Boys” come into to show off for the Ladies .

Kipps Landing, named after James Kipp, a steamboat captain, who was a prominent figure in Missouri River history during the early fur trading business in the mid 1800’s and today this area is part of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. The Missouri Breaks is a beautiful area filled with history and adventure.
