Yellowstone NP Winter 2017

During the late winter and early spring of 2017 we returned to “our backyard park”  to visit and see how our furry and feathered friends survived the snowy and stormy winter here in the harsh wilderness environment of Yellowstone!

Boar Grizzly Bears, who come out of hibernation earlier than the sows and their cubs, find the carcasses of the buffalo or elk that did not survive, but the carcasses provide meals for them as well as for wolves, coyotes and our feathered friends.

Eagles soaring over the carcasses or perched in a tree looking for a chance to swoop down and perhaps get a meal themselves. A cloudy, windy day, but all of us birds were enjoying the adventure.

And then, on our third but first trip of the year staying in our camper at the Mammoth Campground, we watched what may have been the first buffalo calf born in the Lamar Valley of the park this year. Cute little guy who joined mom and the rest of the herd.

Enjoy the Adventure!

Stay tuned for our next Adventure when we will be traveling again to our “backyard park” for a three week visit with our furry and feathered friends starting May 13, 2017, as well as visiting with the many friends who also enjoy Yellowstone!
